Unilever set out to create a dedicated space for chefs to share their recipes, all centered around key Unilever products like Hellmann’s and Knorr Professional. They wanted something clear and bold, true to the brand but with a standout edge. While staying aligned with Unilever’s brand guidelines, they gave me creative freedom to craft a fresh, distinctive look and feel for the project.
I began with Unilever’s color palette, exploring how it could evoke the delicious, mouth-watering appeal of the recipes. Next, I searched for a typeface that captured the emotion and meaning behind the words. To bring extra texture and energy to the overall style, I added depth and character through custom elements. I also developed clear guidelines for each asset, from text styles to shape strokes, to ensure the look could be consistently replicated across all materials.
I chose the Obviously typeface and customized it to match the Standout Signatures style. I rounded the corners of the letters, numbers, and special characters to create a unique, ownable look. This became a custom typeface that could be used across all assets. It helped speed up the design process, and the client appreciated the small detail that made a big impact.
Unilever were thrilled with the outcome. Today, the branding has been applied across print, web, and social media assets, and is used consistently across all their platforms.
